ESBJERG YOUTH SCHOOL
The municipal Youth School is a unique Danish concept: A school form which is rooted in the Danish general education programme and is on a voluntary basis. The Youth School offers are primarily for youngsters between 13 and 18 years old.
Many young people in Esbjerg know the Danish municipal Youth School. Mainly because they have participated in the tuition or some of the many other activities, which the Youth School offers.
Esbjerg Youth School is an alternative to the ordinary ordinary school, and has great multiplicity both regarding groups and activities. In many ways the Youth School act as an alternative space for education of youngsters. Here they have the possibility of experimenting with activities, which the ordinary educational system has neither resources nor capacity to offer.
Esbjerg Youth School has been involved in many different youth exchanges through the EU programme "Youth In Action", mainly with countries from Central and Eastern Europe as well as Balkan countries.
During the daytime the youth school offers:
- The Full-time education:
- 9th and 10th grade classes
- Classes for youngsters with fewer opportunities
- Special classes for young immigrants
- Prevention measures for youngsters who are in a difficult family and social situation
During the afternoon and evening the youth school offers:
- Leisure time education / activities:
- Creative workshops: Trend-Design-Textile, live role games, art, film, music
- Computer workshops: PC driving license, web programming, LAN-party
- Body and Soul: Street Dance, aerobic, yoga and self defence
- Performance: Musical, theatre, skateboarding, make-up and colours, dancing
- Outdoor life: Diving, canoeing, adeventure race and climbing, driving license for moped
- Café evenings Monday to Thursday with activities
- Travel: Journeys, trips and youth exchanges
